About the Award
The R&D Design Award recognises excellence in research, design innovation and the development of new ideas by students, emerging researchers and higher education institutions across Malaysia.
It celebrates creative and original design solutions grounded in rigorous research, functional relevance, new product development potential, commercial value and positive impact on industry and society.
Entries will be evaluated by recognised design professionals and industry practitioners with extensive experience in New Product Development, supporting a professional, objective and industry-aligned assessment process.
Two Main Categories
Both categories recognise strong design thinking, but the expected depth of research and contribution differs by academic level.
Degree Students
RM300 per entry
For undergraduate degree students presenting original design research, concepts and prototypes with clear user relevance and future development potential.
Master’s & PhD Students
RM850 per entry
For postgraduate researchers demonstrating rigorous inquiry, advanced design knowledge and outcomes capable of contributing to industry, society or new product development.
Award Recognition
Gold, Silver and Bronze reflect the level of achievement demonstrated through creativity, innovation, research quality and industry relevance.
